The Gannel Estuary

During low tide, the Gannel Estuary is a tidal river that can be explored. On incoming tides, this silted estuary was utilized as a river channel to distribute coal, wood, and sand. The Gannel is on the link road that leads to Mount Wise after you leave Newquay. The Estuary, which is also where the Newquay to Crantock circular walk begins and is a short walk from the town, has limited parking. Buy a tide calendar and plan a low-tide walk around the estuary to stay safe!

  • Limited off street parking
  • Dogs allowed all year
  • Popular as a horse riding trail

Be safe – Check the tide timetable, plan a walk around the estuary avoiding high tide!
